Currently operating as the seventh-busiest airport in existence, the Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) is roughly 23 km / 14 miles north-east of central Paris and within reach of many of the world's most famous sights. Charles de Gaulle Airport lies next to the commune of Roissy-en-France and is also near to Epiais-lés-Louvres, Le Mesnil-Amelot, Le Thilay, Mauregard and Mitry-Mory.
Each year, Charles de Gaulle Airport sees staggering numbers of Paris passenger, which have now exceeded 57 million, meaning that the busiest times can be crowded. However, operations here are usually fairly slick and those choosing to arrive early will find plenty to keep them occupied, ranging from French bistros to relaxing massages.
Linked to central Paris by the A1 motorway, public transport at Charles de Gaulle International Airport offers easy access to Île Saint-Louis in the very heart of the city. Air France shuttle buses, RER rapid TGV trains and taxis all run to the districts radiating outwards from central Paris, such as the Opéra Garnier neighbourhood, Le Louvre, Rive Gauche and its Montparnasse quarter, and Montmartre, where the spectacular Sacré-Coeur Basilica can be found.
About Paris Tourism
Paris is a stunning city and quite unlike any other, with outstanding churches and magnificent buildings around almost every corner, many of which line the banks of the River Seine. Tourists will be able to stroll along the Champs-Élysées, enjoy the paintings at the world-famous Louvre art gallery, and take a lift to the very top of the Eiffel tower, where the city views are quite breathtaking.
Sited in northern France and within the Ile-de-France region, Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) not only offers easy access to the city centre, but is also close to Disneyland Paris and many neighbouring towns and suburbs. Highlights include La Défense, St. Denis and Versailles, where the Château de Versailles is amongst the most magnificent palaces in the world. Paris apartments, hotels and lodgings are all available in and around the airport. In the city itself, accommodation overlooking the Seine enjoys great demand, as do guest rooms with views of the Eiffel Tower, even if it is just a glimpse on the horizon. Those choosing to stay in Paris apartments should carefully consider the surroundings and neighbouring attractions, with some of the most appealing arrondissements comprising the Bastille, Gare de Lyon, Latin Quarter, Les Halles, Marais and Opéra areas. Wherever you choose to stay, the inexpensive Metro trains allow you to reach your chosen destination with ease.
Finding cheap flights to Paris isn't difficult. Whether you plan to arrive at the smaller Orly or Beauvais airports, or the massive Charles de Gaulle airport, all are perfectly placed to welcome you into the distinguished French capital, affectionately known as the City of Light. Flights to Paris from many UK airports take just one to two hours. It is a world class business destination, so flights to Paris are usually always busy and with flight prices being highest at weekends or during the holidays. To help keep costs down midweek flight will be your best bet, unless you are travelling in the off peak winter season in which case Paris flights are generally well priced across the board. You'll still find cheap flights to Paris in autumn and spring though, and also benefit from the warmer weather these seasons bring.
